The story of the first Resident Evil game began when Tokuro Fujiwara told Shinji Mikami and other co-workers at Capcom to create a game using elements from his 1989 game Sweet Home on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

The reason it wasn’t released under the name of Biohazard in the United States, unlike it did in Japan, was that in late 1994, when marketing executives were getting ready to release in America, it became well-spoken that securing the rights to the name Biohazard would be very difficult as a DOS game had been registered under that name, so the visitor had a competition, asking everyone to come up with a new name, and the winner was… Resident Evil.

Interesting Fact: Performed from early July to late August in Japan in 2000, Bioroid: Year Zero was a musical horror comedy, telling a story from an infected point of view.
